- PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY
Calling all knitters, or those who crochet! Would you like to get together to knit or crochet, to compare notes on patterns, or just share fellowship with one another? Does meeting once a month fit into your schedule? If you would like to use your talents in this way, you are invited and welcome (even if you don’t know how to knit and/or crochet) to be a part of this ministry.
Even if you don’t have time or can’t make it to a meeting, we are always in need of prayer shawls or prayer squares. These can be dropped off anytime in the church office. A variety of colors and sizes are always needed and appreciated.
What makes it a prayer shawl? As people knit, they weave prayers into the shawl. They begin with a prayer for blessing the shawl and then pray for the person who will receive the shawl throughout the process. When this prayer shawl is given to a parishioner, it is given with a special card that also tells who knit the shawl. The message that is to accompany the shawl should read something like this: It is our prayer that you use this shawl as a mantle of love: wrap it around you as you go about your daily activities, when you feel down, when you go out, when you sleep, whenever you feel a need for love and support, always remembering that the minister who wove prayers for God’s love and your healing into it with the intention that it would comfor you, continues to remember you in prayer. And may God bless you! Many people who have received a prayer shawl comment that they feel completely covered with prayer, warmth and God’s love.
The Prayer Shawl Ministry group will not meet in December. The next scheduled meeting will be on Saturday, January 14, 2012 from 10 a.m. until noon. Come one and all to knit, crochet or learn to do these enjoyable crafts. We make prayer shawls, prayer squares, and baby items and cancer caps. Everyone is welcome. If you have any questions, talk with Kathy Palmer or Judy Clausen, who are the coordinators.
