Mali Bod, Parish Nurse

Greetings to you in the name of the healing Christ!  I am excited to be on a journey with you as we all strive for optimum health.  I grew up in Bloomington, MN as one of the youngest of 10 children.  There was always noise and activity!  I graduated from St. Olaf College in 1993 with a degree in nursing.  I have held various positions as a nurse over my career, with a majority of experience in Maternal/Child health.  In addition to being your parish nurse, I also work at Woodwinds Hospital as a Lactation Consultant 3 days a week.

I live in Hudson, WI with my husband, Fabrice, and two daughters, Eva (11) and Coralie (5).   As a family we love to travel, especially to France to visit family.  We also like to travel in the US, again, often visiting family.  Over the years I have been on several mission trips both in the US and Mexico.   Eva and I have gone twice to Roatan, Honduras.

Reading and my book club are a joy to me.  Not being able to sit still very long, I also enjoy knitting to keep my fingers moving as I relax.
My real passion is helping others strive for their optimal health and wellness.  I have many resources but am always looking for more because there is something new to learn each and every day.  I am ready to walk with you, in reality down the street, or in your own journey toward wellness.  I am in the office on Tuesdays and other days by appointment. Come or call!

• What is a parish nurse?
A parish nurse is a registered nurse that works in a faith community to address health issues of its members and other members in the broader community or neighborhood.  What makes this specialty different is the conscious partnering of health issues with the faith of the client and client’s family.  The core to this practice is the intentional care of the spirit of those the parish nurse assists.

• What does a parish nurse do?
A parish nurse seeks to foster physical, emotional, spiritual, and social harmony leading to healthy and healing relationships with God, family, faith communities, culture and creation.  They have several roles (Canadian Association for Parish Nursing Ministry 2005):
• H – Health advisor
• E – Educator on health issues
• A – Advocate/resource person
• L – Liaison to faith and community resources
• T – Teacher of volunteers and developer of support groups
• H – Healer of body, mind, spirit and community (clarifier of close relationship between faith and health)
